BEING CONFIDENT IN THE WORD

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Paul is saying, be confident, or have confidence in what he is teaching: so, what is this “very thing”? It’s the good news that God invested in you, when you made Jesus lord of your life through faith. That this word of faith will perform or finish this work or, this very thing, until the day of Jesus Christ.

To get a better idea of what Paul is talking about, let’s look at the verses before:

3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,

Paul was confirming his confidence in God’s faithfulness to continue the work of the gospel in this young church. The word confidence means, an assurance of mind or firm belief in the trustworthiness of another, or in the truth and reality of a fact. Paul demonstrates the belief and faith that God’s word, the gospel will continue to work in his absence. But how can this happen? Remember that in Paul’s time, they did not have bibles as we know them, and even their access to “Old Testament” documents of God’s word was limited. God had a plan for that.

As Jesus began to prepare to take the cross, he would talk to his disciples more and more about the Holy Spirit.

James 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

This is a gift to all who accept Jesus as their Lord. He sends the Holy Spirt, also called the Holy Ghost, to teach us.

Galatians 6:6 let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.

We are to communicate unto him that teaches all good things. This is addressing Christ Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit because of the word ALL good things. That is why it is so important to have communication with our Lord and our God. God created us for the purpose of having a family to communicate with through the Holy Spirit.

When you speak to God, the words you speak activates Gods word. It transfers His word directly through your spirit. this is how God communicates with us. This is done by His Holy Spirit to our spirit. from the Holy Spirit to the natural man. So, if you want to learn from God’s word, simply ask, “Holy Spirit, teach me through God’s word.” That’s how we grow in the word, through communication with the one that does the teaching.

We grow through communication. The word communication means, to make known, that is to say, share, or participate. It also means to transfer or release the power and authority from faith toward the people that might not understand the word. This is the purpose of a believer, to transfer the gospel or good news of Jesus.

To reach to others, you as a believer must have faith, know what faith is, what faith does, and how to use faith. This is how you will be able to reach others and bring some to believe in Jesus. You can’t transfer or release something you don’t have or something you don’t know. So, how do we get this word, so we can transfer or release it in our spiritual lives?

Roman 10:17 so then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

Hearing by the word of God is the communication that begins to release the power and authority from faith. His written word, the bible, and his specific word or teaching for you through the Holy Spirit. Faith is used when we are sure or convinced that when we speak, we trust in the truth of God’s word, that it will accomplish what we decree and declare.

You build up faith by acknowledging every good thing which is in you by Christ Jesus. It is by faith that you release or transfer that communication from your spirit to your body.

Hebrews 11:1 now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is not just a word, faith is a substance, it is the evidence of things not seen. You need to stay alert, and acknowledge this “good thing” which is in you in Christ Jesus. We need to be confident of the good work of God, which he will perform in us, just as Paul wrote to the Philippians. Remember, God’s word never fails His plans.

Isaiah 55:11 so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

When God speaks… things take action, when you speak, your words activate the power of God. Never underestimate the power of what you say. The power of life and death is in the tongue of the believer.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

As you come to understand the power of speaking and believing, be careful of the words you speak. Are your words spoken in love, is it the truth, is it factual? Take time to give thought to your words. Take a warning from the prophet Jeramiah.

Jeramiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

What we feel in our hearts is revealed in what we say. Most of the time when we speak it is according to how we feel, or what someone may have said to you. No matter what is said strive to keep your heart and thinking pure. This is how we prosper our soul.

3 John 1:2 beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Since your spirit has been sealed when you became a believer, we need to concentrate on keeping our soul right with God so he will be able to prosper us. Seek God’s word with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, and release the wisdom of the word in everything that pertains to the purpose of your life. Speaking God’s word, it works. When you speak his word, it activates and transfers Gods power and authority from your spirit which is supernatural to the body, which is natural. God has promised us success when we serve Him.

Isaiah 54:17 no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper: and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. this is the heritage of the servants of the lord.

No weapon, natural or supernatural, will prosper when it comes against you. This is our promise of what we have inherited as servants of the Lord. All we have to do is trust Him, and have faith.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all things, trust God, he is still in control. Don’t lean on your natural understanding. This can go very wrong very fast by trusting in our natural understanding. Instead, speak to your brain, telling it God is in charge. Tell it to line up with the mind of Christ Jesus and the word of God.

Your brain’s job is to regulate the body. if your body hurts speak to the hurt, tell it God is in control. Your brain and your thinking regulate the body because the brain is the control room of your soul.

Talk to your finances, tell them to get in line with the word of God. Reach out and take this power and authority that Jesus paid for, and invested in you so that you might be strong and fight that good fight of faith.

When you start learning and speaking God’s word, you build you confidence in God. You begin to see Him work in all things. This confidence is building faith in the truth and the mercy of God.

Now you see why you can’t please God without faith and confidence in God, the very thing Paul was talking about was the blessed hope in Christ Jesus.

Stay in the word,

Brother Andy
